POD: Organizing our Work and Making Sure its in Order!

It was a dark and chilly start to the day — our first morning with frost on the playground equipment! The temperature dropped to zero degrees, so warm coats, hats, and mitts are definitely needed from now on. Many students came inside for breakfast to warm up.

We began with our regular routine. Our spelling words today were 55, 66, 77, and 88, and our “Show, Not Tell” sentence was “He needed to organize his papers.” We worked through our Heggerty listening games and our maze before doing some real-life organizing of our own.

As we sorted our papers, we learned why it’s so important to write the day AND date at the top of every page — it makes organizing much easier! Once everything was in order, we placed our work into our duotangs.

In math, we revisited fractions, reviewing that the numerator goes on top and the denominator goes on the bottom — and the line between them means divided by. We also worked on fraction activities where we colored shapes to show equal parts.

After recess, our JMH reading mentors arrived with some fun new literacy games. When they left, we fit in a quick read to self, and then it was already time for lunch!

We enjoyed a beautiful outdoor lunch — there may not be many of those left this fall!

PE was spent with the Grade 1–2 class. We did a short workout, played Zombie Tag and Candy Corn Tag, and wrapped up with a big “Cubs on three!” before heading upstairs to Social Studies with Ms. Doucet.

Today’s Social Studies lesson was extra fun because we used Oreos to learn about the phases of the moon! Oreos make everything better — even science learning!

We ended the day practicing our Halloween song for Friday, we read more from our chapter book, did some French vocabulary, and wrote in our Book of Gratitude before we packed up to go home.

Bundle up and stay warm — see you tomorrow, Cubs!
