POD: We ALL made it to Free Choice Time!
We had indoor arrival this morning due to the weather, but breakfast was served hot — a cozy way to start the day! After O Canada, we jumped into our regular routine. Our spelling words were 11, 12, 13, and 14 and our “Show, Not Tell” sentence was “His desk was messy.” We completed our maze and Heggerty listening games before moving into writing.
In writing, we learned about pronouns and how they help us avoid repeating the same noun over and over again. Our sentences are already sounding more professional! We continued to review editing with a focus on capitals and punctuation.
Math time included reviewing how to represent numbers and diving deeper into fractions with a focus on numerators and denominators — what they are, and what they mean.
Recess was outdoors today, which was a nice break. When we returned inside, we continued with UFLI, learning phonics rules for when to add a silent e at the end of a word.
In PE, things got spooky as we played a Haunted House game followed by a fast round of Zombie Tag. Lots of laughs and lots of movement!
After lunch, we enjoyed a quiet read to self before heading to Music, where we practiced our Halloween song for Friday’s performance. It’s really coming together!
With Mrs. Doucet, we added to our weather journals and talked about objects in the sky — including a closer look at the phases of the moon.
We wrapped up the afternoon by reading more of School Days According to Humphrey. Humphrey had a very exciting weekend at Small Paul’s house, watching him build model airplanes! We also reviewed our French colour vocabulary and wrote in our Book of Gratitude with the prompt:
“Someone I supported today was…”
Everyone successfully completed their work in time for a few minutes of free choice before the buses arrived — what a great way to end the day!
It was a busy and productive first day back. Get a good night’s rest, Cubs — see you tomorrow!
