POD: Learning about the Moon
The day started off rainy here in Napan, which meant indoor openings this morning. After O Canada, we jumped into our regular routine. Our spelling words were 1, 11, 100, and 1000, and our “Show, Not Tell” sentence was “He loved baseball.” We completed our maze and Heggerty listening games before organizing some of our work to get it ready for our binders.
In math, we reviewed how to represent numbers and then dove deeper into fractions. We explored halves and quarters and reminded ourselves that the most important rule of fractions is that all the pieces must be the same size to be fair and equal.
Recess was indoors again today, as the rain didn’t seem to want to stop.
During PE, we began in the classroom to talk about heart rate—what it means, and how to find it. Then we headed to the gym for a quick warm-up workout. It was much easier to find our pulse after getting our hearts pumping! We finished with a couple of Halloween dances, remembering to count in fours and eights, and wrapped up with our positive shout-outs before heading to Guidance.
In Guidance, Mrs. Lehnart read a few books about kindness and led us through some mindfulness activities. There were crafts, coloring popsicle sticks, kinetic sand, and even LEGO to explore—it was a calm and creative session!
We had another indoor lunch since the rain continued, and afterwards we fit in a quick read to self before tackling desk cleanup time. It’s amazing how quickly desks can fill up, even this early in the year!
In Social Studies with Ms. Doucet, we talked about the sun, shadows, and the phases of the moon. When we returned to class, we read more from School Days According to Humphrey, sang some French vocabulary songs, and completed our Book of Gratitude with the prompt: “Someone I saw being kind today was…”
Before heading home, we signed our home-to-school books. A November hot lunch menu has been added inside the cover, so be sure to check it out. Some students earned free choice time, while others worked hard right up to the bell—because in this class, you have to work hard to play hard!
We packed up, loaded the buses, and headed home for a well-deserved rest. Have a great evening, Cubs, and I’ll see you tomorrow!
