POD: Think Halloween NOT Cute-o-ween

It was a beautiful day outside — warmer than expected for October, but still cool enough to remind us it’s fall.

We began our morning with our regular spelling and writing routine. Our spelling words were 1, 2, 3, and 4, and our “Show, Not Tell” sentence was “She was exhausted.” After completing our Heggerty lesson and maze, we moved into math.

In math, we reviewed how to represent numbers and practiced dividing shapes into equal parts. Mid-morning, the RCMP joined us to observe our lockdown drill. They said our class did an excellent job following instructions and staying calm — a big compliment to all of you!

Once the drill was over, we went outside for recess and enjoyed the fresh air. When we came back in, our JMH reading mentors were arriving off the bus with fun Friday activities. It’s always exciting to see the effort they put into their visits!

We headed to the gym next for a short but energetic PE class. We did a workout to get our bodies moving and then switched gears to practice some Halloween dances. (Why is counting in 4s and 8s important for dance? Ask your child!)

After our pizza lunch, we enjoyed some outdoor time in the sunshine — still sweater weather, but very pleasant. When we returned to class, Mrs. Hill had the tables set up for pumpkin painting! Everyone had a great time being creative and adding their own Halloween flair. The only complaint I heard was, “It’s Halloween, not cute-oween!” — which I’d say is a pretty fun complaint to have!

In the afternoon, Mrs. Doucet taught a lesson about the sun and shadows. We talked about what shadows can tell us throughout the day and how they change depending on where the sun is in the sky.

We wrapped up the day with a quick read to self, wrote in our Book of Gratitude, signed our home-to-school books, and spent a little time on Reading Park before enjoying some free choice time.

It was a wonderful end to a busy week. Have a great weekend, Cubs — rest up and enjoy the fall weather!
