2025_11_12 Thursday Day 45

POD: Learning about Seasons

This morning was cold, but without the wind it actually felt crisp and refreshing — as long as you were dressed properly. We began with our regular morning routine. Our spelling words were 98, 87, 76, and 65. Our UFLI dictated sentence was “The new buses have benches.” Did you remember to add -es? Our “Show, Not Tell” was “His drawing was good.” We also completed our Heggerty listening games and our maze before moving into math.

In math, we reviewed representing numbers and fractions. We also looked at skip counting using Canadian coins, especially nickels and dimes. Being able to count money using skip counting will help us as we move into addition and real-life math situations.

After recess, our JMH reading mentors arrived with more fun activities. When they finished with their groups, we headed to PE where we continued working on our basketball skills. Today’s focus was pivoting, passing, and learning how to tuck our elbow when we shoot. Great effort from everyone.

At lunch, some students enjoyed the outdoors while others chose to go to the gym to keep practicing basketball. A memo went home today for the basketball team — our first game is next Wednesday against Millerton.

After lunch, we headed upstairs to Mrs. Potts’ room for a special Starfish Award presentation. A Starfish Award is given to someone who spreads kindness and positivity, and we were very excited to see Ms. J receive hers.

Back in the classroom, we worked on our books before going across the hall to see Ms. Doucette. Today’s lesson focused on the sun, the moon, tides, and how the seasons are beginning to change.

We finished our day by reading a little more from our chapter book. Humphrey has started switching up some of the job names that Ms. Brisbane created for her classroom, but she doesn’t seem to mind one bit. Afterwards, we watched a short video on responsibility, since it’s our virtue of the month. Our Book of Gratitude prompt was “I am responsible for…”

Once our home-to-school books were signed, we packed up and headed out for the buses. This week has been short and very quick, so make sure you get lots of rest tonight.

Tomorrow is our last day of the week, and it’s also Pizza Day — my favourite.

See you in the morning.

2025_11_12 Wednesday Day 44

POD: Writing about our Long Weekend

We started the day off with some very cold weather. I was happy to see so many students getting off the bus wearing ski pants, hats, and mitts. Being cold is no fun, so please remember to dress warmly each morning.

We began with our regular morning routine. Our spelling words were 24, 35, 46, and 57, and our “Show, Not Tell” sentence was “The jack-o-lantern was old.” We completed our maze and Heggerty listening games before moving into writing.

In writing, we practiced using the three types of punctuation—periods, question marks, and exclamation marks. We are continuing to work on starting every sentence with a capital letter and ending with proper punctuation. It’s something we’ll keep practicing until it becomes a habit! We also wrote a short piece titled “My Long Weekend” before transitioning into math.

In math, we continued learning about Canadian coins. Can you name all five coins and their values? We reviewed their names, practiced identifying them, and talked about how to tell their values just by looking at them.

After recess, our JMH reading mentors joined us for small group activities. When they left, we headed to the gym for PE. With basketball season just around the corner, it was a great time to start building some skills. We worked on pivoting, holding our stance when we have the ball, and keeping our thumbs pointed down during a chest pass. Everyone showed great effort and teamwork.

After lunch, we had a little fun with art by drawing and coloring Buddy the Elf. We even began animating our work. Then we went across the hall to see Ms. Doucet, where we talked about tides and how they are related to the moon and sun.

We wrapped up the afternoon by reading from our chapter book, discussing our virtue of the month—Responsibility, and reviewing some French vocabulary on colors. Finally, we wrote in our Book of Gratitude with the sentence starter, “I was responsible today when I…”

Once everyone had their home-to-school books signed, we packed up and got ready to head home. The wind was still whistling across the playground as we boarded the buses—another reminder to dress warm tomorrow.

2025_11_07 Friday Day 43

POD: School performance during Remembrance Day Cermony

We started the morning by coming straight inside, since everyone was dressed up so nicely for Remembrance Day—hair styled, clothes pressed, and poppies proudly displayed.

We began our regular routine with our spelling words: eight, nine, five, and four. Our “Show, Not Tell” sentence was “She was well-behaved for the Remembrance Day ceremony,” and our dictated sentence was “He had bunches of snacks.” We also completed our maze and Heggerty listening games before moving into writing.

During our writing program, we focused on forming questions—starting with a capital letter and ending with the correct punctuation mark. Everyone is getting better at remembering both!

In math, we reviewed representing numbers and then looked a little deeper into Canadian coins and their values. It’s always fun when math connects to real-world things we use every day.

Because of the weather, recess was indoors, but that didn’t stop us from having a great morning. Afterwards, we went downstairs for our Remembrance Day ceremony. Thank you to all the families and guests who attended—we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. The students were respectful, focused, and made Napan proud.

Lunch was extra special today—we had pizza, and the sun came out just in time for a bit of fresh air outside. After lunch, we did a quiet read to self before heading back to the gym for our end-of-month assembly.

We finished the day by writing our own books, a project the students are very excited about! Then we packed up, signed our home-to-school books, and got ready to head home for a well-earned break.

There is no school for students on Monday or Tuesday, so enjoy the long weekend, Cubs! Rest up, have fun, and I’ll see you all on Wednesday!

2025_11_06 Thursday Day 42

POD: Skating and a Great Day Together!

The days are definitely getting colder! I even wore ski pants on duty this morning, and I hope everyone is remembering to dress warm each day, too.

We started off with our regular morning routine. Our spelling words were 1, 10, 100, and 1000, and our “Show, Not Tell” sentence was “He was respectful at the Remembrance Day ceremony.” Our dictated sentence was a fun tongue twister: “He wishes his glasses could see fishes.” We completed our Heggerty listening games and maze before loading the buses for our big trip to the LBA for skating!

A huge thank-you to all the adults who helped tie skates and fasten helmets — your help made everything run so smoothly and made the morning a wonderful experience for everyone. The students did an amazing job on the ice, and there were smiles all around!

When we returned to school, we had a quick snack and enjoyed some fresh air outside. After recess, our JMH reading mentors joined us for some literacy fun, and we wrapped up the morning with a few minutes of responsible choice before lunch.

After lunch, we had a calm read to self period before heading down to the gym for our full dress rehearsal for tomorrow’s Remembrance Day ceremony. Everyone did a fantastic job remembering their parts, singing proudly, and showing respect.

To end the day, we came back to class for a little bit of free choice before packing up and heading home.

Please make sure to get lots of rest tonight, Cubs — tomorrow we will hold our Remembrance Day ceremony at 11:00 a.m. I know everyone will make Napan proud.

2025_11_05 Wednesday Day 41

POD: A Sneak Peak at our Remembrance Day Ceremony!

It was a warm and sunny morning on the playground — the first one we’ve had in quite a while! Setting the clocks back definitely helps; it’s nice to have the sun shining when we arrive. Even so, it’s still chilly enough for hats and mitts.

We began our day by introducing our new virtue of the month — Responsibility. It ties in perfectly with our last two months of Kindness and Respect, and we talked about what it means to be responsible both at school and at home.

After that, we moved into our regular morning routine. Our spelling words were 98, 87, 76, and 65. For “Show, Not Tell,” we revisited a previous sentence — “She was a good singer.” We discussed how that might look different for Remembrance Day compared to Halloween. Our dictated sentence was “She wishes she could sing on big stages.” We also reviewed when to add -es to words during spelling.

We completed our Heggerty listening games and maze before heading down to the gym to practice for this Friday’s Remembrance Day ceremony. The students did a great job working out some of the small details for our performance.

When we came back upstairs, we enjoyed a late snack and then shifted into math, where we explored the coins of Canada. Do you know all of our coins, their names, and their values?

After recess, our JMH reading mentors joined us for some fun reading and literacy games. When they left, we headed back to the gym to polish up our school-wide song one more time.

Lunch was outdoors today — it was a beautiful day to be outside. However, a reminder from Ms. Brown: there’s been a bit too much roughhousing and wrestling during lunch recess. Hands are for helping, not hurting!

When we came back in, a few students were feeling upset, so we took a quiet break and worked on our Reading Park app to help us reset and refocus.

In the afternoon, we visited Ms. Doucet, who continued teaching us about the phases of the moon, outer space, and the many objects found beyond Earth.

We finished off the day reading from our chapter book School Days According to Humphrey, reviewed French color vocabulary, and filled out our home-to-school books.

Don’t forget — tomorrow is skating! All K–2 students must have ski pants, and everyone will be skating at the LBA. I can’t wait to get back on the ice with everyone.

Get a great night’s sleep, store up your energy, and I’ll see you tomorrow, Cubs
