POD: Lego Club at Lunch has Returned!

Today was the first day in quite a while that we were able to start the morning with an outdoor opening, since the temperature wasn’t below minus fifteen. It was nice to get some fresh air first thing before heading inside to work.

Once in the classroom, we got straight to work and set up our pages for the day. Our spelling words were hoist, cloud, south, and loud. Our UFLI dictated sentence was “The coin fell in the void.” We are getting much better at remembering to start with a capital letter and end with a period, especially during our UFLI work.

We also continued working on our short story introductions, writing the opening paragraph about Nina the cat who lived on a farm. After that, we completed our Heggerty listening games and our maze, then wrote about our weekends.

In math, we reviewed arrays and our multiplication stories before moving into subtraction. We noticed we were a little rusty with regrouping and borrowing, but with practice it will start to feel easier again.

After recess, we returned to UFLI and learned about using AI and AY to make the long A sound and when each one is used in words.

During PE, we talked about being active and respecting that while we get to choose our own activity, we don’t get to choose what others do. We finished with a fun game of Olympic Torch Tag.

After lunch, the Grade 2s had their first computer lesson, while the Grade 3s worked on Read to Self and Write to Self. Then we headed across the hall to see Mr. Comeau, where we learned about our province, the cities within it, and how they connect to our community.

We ended the day by starting a new chapter book, Ricky Ricotta and His Mighty Robot, reviewed the days of the week in French, and introduced our new virtue of the month — Humility.

Today flew by!
Get lots of rest tonight, and I will see you in the morning.
