POD – Working on a Write to Self

We started the day with an indoor recess, but after O Canada we got straight to work. Our four spelling words today were child, cry, baby, and puzzle. Our UFLI sentence was, “Does the pony try apples?” For our Show, Not Tell, we worked with the idea that “she was very old.” We completed our Heggerty listening games and our maze before moving on with our day.

We also did Day 2 of our UFLI lesson, reviewing the endings ind, ild, old, olt, y, and ost. We read our UFLI decodable passage and did a great job using our strategies to figure out tricky words.

In math, we continued our work on arrays and also practiced telling time on an analog clock. After that, we enjoyed an outdoor recess. When we came back in, our James M. Hill reading mentors arrived. This is their final week with us, and we appreciated the activities they prepared.

In P.E., we did a quick warm-up and then tried some Zumba. You don’t have to be perfect at it, but you do have to be active—and we were!

After lunch and another bit of outdoor fresh air, we came in to work on Read-to-Self, Write-to-Self, and Reading Park. Then we went next door with Mr. Kummel, who reviewed east and west, where the sun rises and sets, and talked more about our community.

We ended the afternoon with our chapter book, Geronimo Stilton and the Temple of the Ruby of Fire. Geronimo finally made it out of the airport and landed in Crocodilia—though it doesn’t quite seem like he’s enjoying his stay so far. We watched a quick video on courage, and our Book of Gratitude entry finished the sentence, “An example of courage is…”

We packed up our things, got our home-to-school books signed, and learned that our basketball game was canceled due to weather. We bundled up, got on the bus, and headed home.

Get lots of sleep tonight, dress warm, and stay healthy.
