POD: Working on a Responsible Choice

This morning was a little chilly, but everyone stepped off the bus looking sharp with fancy hair and clothes for picture day!

We started with our regular routine. Our new spelling focus is writing numbers in word form from zero to twenty. After that, we began a writing piece called “Ouch!” where students told about a time they were injured.

When it was time for photos, everyone looked fantastic! Back in class, we shifted to math and practiced representing numbers in different ways, paying special attention to spelling each number word correctly.

Recess was cool but refreshing, and when we came in the class jumped right into “read to self.” Today’s effort was excellent—I can see real progress in how focused everyone is becoming. Afterward, we talked about Truth and Reconciliation. We watched a short video that explained the origins of Orange Shirt Day and why it is important.

PE took us to the gym where we practiced moving safely with bean bags. We also worked on switching partners while passing and receiving.

The weather at lunch was beautiful, perfect for playing outside.

In the afternoon, we tried a tricky folding craft—making an Orange Shirt out of paper. Folding was frustrating at first, but we challenged ourselves to stick with it. By the third try, many students had the steps memorized and could fold a fourth shirt without instructions! The lesson of the day: repetition and not giving up leads to success.

Later, we worked in our daily journals and learned more about thermometers and meteorologists. Being able to predict the weather is very helpful—especially when planning something fun like our trip to Fletcher’s Farm!

Instead of our usual Book of Gratitude, we practiced making responsible choices. We now have a red binder in our book boxes for when we finish early. Inside are pages for coloring, puzzles, and activities that look and sound like real work. Many students actually enjoyed this routine more than gratitude writing today!

We ended the day by packing up our home-to-school books, which included a memo about the Fletcher’s Farm trip and the school pictures from today.

Don’t forget—tomorrow is Cubs t-shirt day! Wear yours with pride.
