POD: Terry Fox Kick-off Assembly
Our morning began with bus evacuation practice for all buses at once. This was a new way of organizing it, but it worked out smoothly—thank you to everyone for being patient while we got it done!
After that, we moved into our regular routine: spelling, “Show, Not Tell,” listening games, a maze, and getting our book boxes ready.
Next came one of the big highlights of the day—our DOT Day photos and videos with the drone! We can’t wait to see how the videos turn out.
Math time had us revisiting number representation and practicing benchmarks on number lines. Grade 2 worked with 0, 25, 50, and 100, while Grade 3 tackled 0, 250, 500, 750, and 1000.
Mid-morning, we headed to an assembly to launch our Terry Fox fundraiser. We watched videos, learned some facts about Terry’s incredible journey, and even gave away a few t-shirts! Keep an eye out for information coming home later this week.
Back in class, we settled in for “read to self,” then began a discussion on Terry Fox. Before long, Mrs. Lehnart arrived and brought the class outside for Guidance, where we explored mindfulness in nature. How do you think spending time outside can help you feel calmer and more focused?
In PE, the focus was on soccer skills. With some of our Grade 3 students joining the Napan soccer team for the very first time, the excitement was high! We practiced passing and receiving while working on keeping our kicks steady—no “squishing the bug!”
Science and Social Studies with Ms. Doucet kept the energy going. We created our own weather vanes and tested them outdoors. The wind wasn’t strong today, so we’ll have to try again another time. How did your vane turn out?
The afternoon included another chapter from School Days According to Humphrey, where the students learned how to clean Humphrey’s cage. We also worked on French vocabulary—numbers 1 to 10 and colors—and wrote in our Book of Gratitude with the prompt: “One thing I was excited for today was…”
We wrapped up with home-to-school books and a bit of free choice time. A special good-luck shout-out goes to our Grade 3–5 Cubs, who are representing Napan at the King Street Turf tonight against Miramichi Rural. Go Cubs go!
